The BWN were thrilled to once again be part of the Groundswell Festival of Innovation that took place in Tauranga from 27 August – 9 September 2019. On 3rd September we hosted a lunchtime panel discussion with three amazing innovative and trail blazing women from very diverse backgrounds. They were;
Hilary Price, a founder of Homes of Hope who is passionate about seeing vulnerable children supported and flourishing through the use of innovative approaches to care.
Holly Brown, a business and leadership consultant who was previously General Manager Greater China for Zespri International.
Ezel Kokcu, a 26-year-old non-stop serial entrepreneur, who having already co-founded and sold two tech companies, is currently preparing to launch her largest start-up to date.
The topic was ‘Challengers – Are you ready?!’ and all speakers told their stories of transformation in the face of their own challenges. Local innovation unearther and enabler Pip Loader did a fabulous job as MC for the event and below is her summary of the key messages conveyed by the speakers.
Top 6 TAKEAWAYS:
To challenge, to be a challenger and to face challenges, all require courage. Dr Brene Brown in her recent Netflix documentary The Call to Courage says “you can choose courage, or you can choose comfort. But you cannot chose both’, not at the same time”.
Courage was the quality that these women all had in common. They didn’t back down, they didn’t give in, and through perseverance and pure grit and holding on to their beliefs and values have achieved tremendous personal and professional growth and transformed not only themselves, but those around them who they have helped along the way.
