Wish You Were Working Here.co.nz is a Priority One online storytelling campaign dedicated to connecting with people who are thinking about moving to Tauranga, by telling the stories of those who recently have.
As the economic development agency for Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty, part of Priority One’s mission is to ensure that the region attracts the skilled professionals and wealth creators it needs for healthy growth.
Kathryn Overall, of Engage Communications, is the friendly face on the Wish You Were Working Here website and the voice behind the interview style profile stories with returned Kiwi expats, imports from Auckland and other New Zealand cities, and immigrants.
“With our storytelling focus, readers get a personal lens into what life in Tauranga is like,” says Kathryn. “For a Kiwi expat who has been living in London for ten years, the Tauranga they remember is very different to the Tauranga that exists today. These stories help them to see the career and business opportunities here as well as the lifestyle benefits.”
Nearly 6000 people follow the Wish You Were Working Here Facebook page, hailing mostly from New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The profile stories are promoted to wider audiences who will find them most relevant. For example, a story about a Kiwi who has moved back to Tauranga from Australia will be targeted to Kiwi expats living in Australia via Facebook advertising.
“This strategy works well as it makes the stories highly relatable,” says Kathryn. “If you are about to make a significant sea-change you don’t want to hear statistics, you want to hear the experiences of someone just like you who has already done it,” says Kathryn.
People who are serious about moving to Tauranga and are looking for work can contact Annie Hill from Priority One via the Wish You Were Working Here website. She helps to facilitate matches between professional people looking for job opportunities in Tauranga and the companies who need them. Every 7-10 days she sends out an email to the business community with a succinct summary from each person who is looking for work in Tauranga.
Can we share your Tauranga sea-change story?
Kathryn posts three per month and is always interested to hear from people who have a Tauranga homecoming or sea change story. You can contact her on Kathryn@priorityone.co.nz
