Uplifting and Inspiring Women

August 10, 2017administrator

Dee Collins launched focus, a high quality business and lifestyle magazine specifically created with women in mind, to the Bay of Plenty in October last year.

Prior to moving to Tauranga in 2015 Dee was involved in the wedding industry on Australia’s Sunshine Coast. “I owned two wedding expos, had a wedding website that required continuous updating with blogs and information, organised networking events for the industry and also produced an annual wedding guide. It was great fun but I always felt I would love to do a women’s magazine that inspired, uplifted and motivated readers.”

With a move back to New Zealand and the purchase of a printing company (Sanyati Print, formerly Simpson Print) the stars started to align! What’s more, Dee and her husband, Mark, bought a well-established creative/graphics/website team (Savant Creative) into the business…so there were no excuses!

“I just needed to seize the day and develop my idea into a magazine that women would love. There is so much negativity and gossip out there, and I wanted a magazine that would uplift women and inspire them.”

“I also didn’t want to reach my twilight years and look back with feelings of regret – regrets of unaccomplished goals and missed opportunities. Regrets that I should’ve or I could’ve. I do have regrets for opportunities I chose not to take and the older I become the more aware I am of the ticking clock. Life is not finite and each year seems to go faster than the one before.”

The articles in focus feature real women in the Bay of Plenty. Many of the women have gone through hardships and huge challenges but, in the end, they have come out the other side stronger.

“We unearth the fascinating stories happening every day in our region and share the good news in a welcoming, uplifting, enticing bi-monthly.”

5,000 FREE copies of focus are distributed to high foot-traffic, hot-spot areas every two months throughout the Bay of Plenty and surrounding areas.

“The positive feedback has been overwhelming and I love the fact that we are working together and lifting each other up,” said Dee.
